JavaScript programs developed by Graeme Cookson
In
2003 Graeme released ImageAUDIT,
a free, comprehensive image file
technical checker, or "preflight" program. This, and other free
productivity JavaScripts for photographers were released in the UK, and
occasionally found their way to the US.
Also in
2003,
Dexter initiated
PACA's (Picture Archive Council of America) first working committee to
address the subject of Digital Standards in the Stock Photography
Industry: the Digital Image Standards Committee (DISCo).
Before their
joint-presentation on digital standards issues at the 2006
Prague CEPIC conference, Graeme described his ongoing JavaScript
project to
Dexter, and the full idea for ImagePASSPORT
was born.
ImagePASSPORT,
at first provided by consultation only, involves complex sets of image
processing routines to update and standardize image collections and
libraries. Using ImageAUDIT's
comprehensive report on image file technical data, clients could learn
the work needed for their collection. They would then engage the ImagePASSPORT services to perform
in days what could otherwise take weeks or months to do "by hand."
Comprehensive data
adjustment capabilities were added to
ImagePASSPORT
in 2007. Metadata clean-up, spreadsheet adjustment and
reformatting, innovative means of inserting data, and repair of
spreadsheets damaged during export are major areas covered in this
functionality.
In 2007, ImageVISA
was developed to give Photographers a
distilled version of ImagePASSPORT's
power: state-of-the-art image
processing in software that doesn't require programming knowledge to
operate. It is based on a cut-down version of PASSPORT,
and standardizes files for one Photo Agency. ImageVISA PRO, added
in 2010, runs on processing instructions to specified standards.
In 2009, ImageTEXT, a metadata entry
template that forces archiving to an Agency's standards, was introduced.
In late 2009, ImagePASSPORT
itself was modified for use directly by our clients.
It has the full image and metadata processing power of
the original ImagePASSPORT, yet runs from instruction-sets customized to client
specifications, on their computers.
Ongoing projects
include a data-handling program tailored to the unique needs
of professional keyworders. Among its features is automated multi-level keyword placement.
